sommer.frische.kunst X Culterim | Residencies

While Bad Gastein, Austria, recovers from the hustle and bustle between seasons, we will use the time of temporary vacancy to create a creative space for artists. From 12 May 2025 until 31 May 2025, we are converting a boutique space and a former hydroelectric power station into a temporary artist residence with studios and accommodation.

Originally built in 1887, Haus Bergfriede stands as one of the first buildings in the area, embodying a rich heritage that has been meticulously preserved and has been a place of hospitality for decades. While Haus Bergfriede will serve as a living and recreation area, the Kraftwerk in Bad Gastein will be the studio house for the programme. 

The number of participants is limited to 8 artists. The programme is open to all contemporary artistic disciplines (visual arts, music, literature, etc.) and includes group and individual discussions as well as various input and exchange formats. Marthe Howitz, the main person responsible for the Artist in Residence programmes at Culterim, will manage the programme on site and curate the selection process.

The aim of the artist-in-residence programme is networking and exchange, the artistic development of the participants and a final presentation of the works created during the programme. The kick-off for the Bad Gastein art programme of sommer.frische.kunst will be the final exhibition in the studios at the Kraftwerk on May 30th, 2025. Afterwards, Haus Bergfriede, Culterim and sommer.frische.kunst will invite invited guests and the artists to dinner at Haus Bergfriede.
